Our Doctrinal Commitments
Our Worship
Why Do We Worship The Way We Do?
Pentecostal worship is Spirit-filled worship under the direction of the Holy Ghost. During our worship services, we lift our voices in praise, we raise our hands in honor to God, we make a joyful noise unto the Lord. The Bible says God inhabits the praises of his people.
If you have never had the opportunity to be in a Spirit-filled pentecostal service before, you will discover that Biblical expressions of worship are still practiced today.
The following are some Biblical references as to why we conduct our church services as we do:
WE SING WITH ALL OUR HEARTS because in the Bible we read, "Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth; make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise." -Psalm 98:4
WE PLAY MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS because in the Bible we read, "And all the house of Israel played before the LORD on all manner of instruments." - 2 Samuel 6:5
WE CLAP AND SHOUT UNTO GOD because in the Bible we read, "O clap your hands, all ye people; shout unto God with the voice of triumph." -Psalm 47:1
The act of clapping our hands is a form of praise that is mentioned frequently in the scriptures.
WE LIFT OUR HANDS IN WORSHIP because in the Bible we read, "Thus will I bless thee while I live. I will lift up my hands in thy name." Psalm 63:4
WE DANCE BEFORE THE LORD because in the Bible we read, "Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs." -Psalm 150:4
WE TESTIFY PUBLICLY because in the Bible we ready, "I will declare thy name unto my brethren; in the midst of the congregation will I praise thee." -Psalm 22:22
WE ANOINT WITH OIL FOR DIVINE HEALING because in the Bible we read, "Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord." -James 5:14
We observe Communion because the Lord told us to. We are to obey His commands: "And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me."
1 Corinthians 11:24 (KJV)
In observing Communion we are remembering Christ and all that He has done for us in his life, death and resurrection: "And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me." 1 Corinthians 11:24 (KJV)
When observing Communion we take time to examine ourselves: "But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup."
1 Corinthians 11:28 (KJV)
In observing Communion we are proclaiming His death until He comes. It is, then, a statement of faith: "For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come." 1 Corinthians 11:26 (KJV)
When we observe Communion we show our participation in the body of Christ. His life becomes our life and we become members of each other: "The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread."
1 Corinthians 10:16-17 (KJV)
